LITHIUM BROMIDE is used in air-conditioning systems as desiccant. Lithium bromide is used as a salt in absorption chilling along with water. Otherwise the salt is useful as a reagent in organic synthesis. Lithium bromide was used as a sedative, used as treatment for bipolar disorder. BENZYL BROMIDE is used in organic synthesis for the introduction of the benzyl groups when the less expensive benzyl chloride is insufficiently reactive. Benzylations are often achieved in the presence of catalytic amounts of sodium iodide, which generates the more reactive benzyl iodide in situ. It is available in Technical and Laboratory grade.
